We’re back.

Didn’t mean to go all Rip Van Winkle on everyone, but there’s really no other explanation for the hibernation that’s been going on at the Element Case blog. But we’ve taken a giant yawn, cleared the crust from our eyes, and did some major stretching. And now we’re ready to roll. First stop: Bolsa Chica Beach, California!

Sun & sand. Surf & sounds. Stunts & sprints. The Roland Sands Moto Beach Classic is the definitive Southern California experience, bringing together bikes and (surf)boards and bands—plus a whole bunch of people looking to have a great time on the shores of the Pacific. All that appeared to be missing from the mix was Element Case.

So, naturally, we had to go there.

In addition to getting folks to visit our booth and trade in their old cases for a shiny new REV, we also did some spectating ourselves. Here are the top five thrills and spills that we enjoyed:

1. The Crashes

2. The Motorcycles

3. The Racing

4. The Squatch

5. The Stunts

The Return of a Legendary Classic

Friday, August 3, 2018 12:38:56 PM America/Los_Angeles

Fire up the DeLorean.

Element Case isn’t going as far back as 1955. Not even 1985. Our engineering squad has set its flux capacitor to 2011, a time in the not too distant past when our Vapor case was all the rage.

For the longest time, our customers have been asking us when are we bringing Vapor back. They loved the simplicity and style of the original, back when they owned iPhone 4. Now that so many have moved on to iPhone X, people have been looking for a case that could deliver the same kind of experience. We felt this was the ideal time to bring this legend back.

And so, our past comes back to the future with the introduction of Vapor-S.

Sleek bumper protection, from a CNC aluminum front bezel precision manufactured to enable strict tolerances to be maintained. Front-and-back table top protection, thanks to a perimeter raised above the front to keep your phone screen from coming in direct contact with surfaces, and a raised back bezel to safeguard the back glass and camera. An optional glass back plate that provides crystal clear additional protection from nicks and scratches.

Plus, all those quality features you know by name and have come to expect in an Element Case. SureGrip. SLS Screw Lock System. DropShock Corners. Fast Tap Buttons. Mil-Spec Protection.

In addition, Vapor-S is wireless charging compatible.

We think this new case is pretty fly. (Or did we mean McFly?) Check it out.

A Memorable Memorial Day of Moto

Friday, June 1, 2018 3:52:49 PM America/Los_Angeles

Memorial Day weekend saw the Element Case team heading up the I-15 from our San Diego base for an X-cellent day of X-treme fun…and phone case X-changing. Detecting a theme here? We road-tripped to San Bernardino, California for the second round of the 2018 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross (aka Moto-X) Championship at Glen Helen Raceway.

This track has earned a reputation in the sport for having the widest and steepest first turn, while Glen Helen’s uphills and downhills are said to be so huge they’re more like mountains! No less an authority than MX Sports Pro Racing calls it “supersized motocross.”

Despite the slightly wet start to the day—even if it was just some sprinkles (in May?), it challenged the “It Never Rains in Southern California” rep we’ve established with the rest of the country—a sellout crowd engulfed the track, ready to cheer on their cycle heroes.

Current National Champion Eli Tomac reclaimed the Glen Helen 450 Class title that he first captured three years ago, while Aaron Plessinger nabbed the 250 Class crown. Each of two classes featured more than 40 riders competing for the podium.

As has become custom at the events where we pitch our tent, the hottest place to be seen was under the black and white Element Case canopy. Lines were constant, as race fans came to check out our racing-inspired lineup of Adrenaline Series cases, and a slew of these folks participated in our now legendary “case swap” by turning in their current mobile phone case in exchange for a shiny new REV or Roll Cage case.

Not sure which event we’ll be at next, but in the spirit of this most recent high-octane event, let’s just say we’ll “cc” you there.

In So Cal, with the ocean always within easy reach, we get spoiled. Our temperate climate means even a mid-winter day can include some time with the sand and the surf...though February water temps require a wetsuit if you want to catch some waves.

And that’s why the Southern Hemisphere was created. February there is pretty much the equivalent of August here. Making it the perfect place for us to escape Summer Lite and get a little Summer Full Bore.

TIMING COULDN’T HAVE BEEN BETTER. We were ready to officially launch our brand in Australia and nothing would be sweeter than to find some big event where we could make a bold intro. So, we bolted—if you could call a 20-hour trans-Pacific journey to Sydney via stopover in Auckland a “bolt”—Down Under for a trip to Bowl-A-Rama.

Billing itself as “a globally recognised (note spelling: we are soooo Aussie) celebration of skateboarding culture,” Bowl-A-Rama attracts legendary and current pro skaters from around the world. Even the beyond legendary (Tony Hawk, Nicky Guerrero) were there. The event covered two days, with six epic sessions of bowl shredding. Weather was super summery with highs in the 30s—in the land of Celsius, that’s close to American triple digits—and tens of thousands of skate fans and sunseekers descended on world-famous Bondi Beach.

SWAP-A-RAMA. We were part of the event’s sponsor and vendor expo, coming in as a relative unknown but departing the weekend with our name on everyone’s mind. Holding one of our celebrated case swaps, we invited people to give up their current case (handing it over for a trip to the recycling center) in exchange for an Element Case. Over the two days, close to 1,000 new friends became proud owners of a new REV, Recon, or Roll Cage…and a few extra lucky ones received a Sector. Social posts were flying around cyberspace like crazy and we’re pretty sure that a good chunk of Australia knows us now.

It’s been said if you’re not moving forward, you’re simply standing still. And, as a company that's built its reputation on being an innovator in its field, Element Case is now making its mark as a pioneer in marketing and promotion, too.

At the recent Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas—the world’s preeminent exhibition of new products and technologies—we became the first company in our market segment to use augmented reality (more commonly known as “AR”) to showcase our latest products.

Through a combination of computer-generated sound, video, and graphics that enhance a real-world setting, AR creates an interactive “experience” for the user. Utilizing this groundbreaking technology, we’re giving consumers an entirely new way to explore the features and benefits of some of our newest cases.

The technology had our chief executive—our “Commander in Thrill”—gushing.

“AR will change the way people interact with our products,” said Ethan Nyholm, president of STM Brands, the parent company of both Element Case and STM Goods (our sister company that produces inventive bags, cases, and accessories for consumer electronic devices).

“Premium cellphone cases have traditionally been some of the toughest products to showcase in stores. Now, thanks to AR, individual customers can see a demonstration of a product’s key features come to life before their eyes.”

The Element Case brand is all about advanced engineering, high-grade materials, and touches that maximize user convenience. By bringing an interactive experience with the cases to the customer, we can take detailed, and often complicated messaging about a product’s attributes and make it an easier-to-grasp, visual explanation.

In simpler terms, a picture is worth a thousand words (and a moving, 3-D picture that AR offers is worth a thousand more).

They say what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas…but we just can’t. We gotta share the news. Spread the word. Talk about it.

The Element Case team just got back from a week in Las Vegas, where we shared a booth with our sister company, STM Goods, at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), the world’s preeminent exhibition of new products and technologies. It was a chance to showcase our newest cases; an occasion to mingle with customers, fans, and industry professionals; and an opportunity to introduce a couple of exciting new ventures.

We rolled out our “Custom Shop” personalized case-making option, as we transformed a section of our booth into a workshop where people could choose their own color combos for various case components, and then assemble a “personal masterpiece.” More than 400 visitors walked away with a customized version of our Formula case, featuring aerospace grade carbon fiber, CNC machined aluminum, and high impact TPU…with their own choice of colors for chassis, rails, and buttons. Custom Shop is now available on our website.

And if that wasn’t enough to keep things buzzing at the booth, we also took in hordes of curiosity-seekers, looking to check out what we were doing with augmented reality. CES is essentially ground zero for everything tech, yet we were the first (and only) brand in our industry to use this groundbreaking technology that creates an interactive “experience” for people to explore the features and benefits of our cases.

At almost any given hour throughout the four days of the show, our booth was the busiest one in the surrounding area. Which made us happy. But, even more impressive, was the number of people who work for our competitors that continually came by to see what all the excitement was about. That got us stoked.

Spending time with loved ones. Making resolutions. Partaking in a polar bear plunge. The start of the New Year is filled with customs. So, naturally, we here at Element Case thought what better time than this to launch an exciting new custom—the Element Case Custom Shop.

How it works is simple.

Take our popular Formula case, which is already a hit in its original orange/black and blue/grey color blends. Now, give yourself the opportunity to mix and match your own color combos of case components to create a completely custom-made masterpiece.

  1. Choose from a black/grey or white/gray chassis.
  2. Ponder over silver or gold buttons.
  3. Decide between blue, citron, green, gunmetal, orange, or red rails.

Like every product in our Adrenaline Collection, this specialized Formula case is built for thrill. But, with the Custom Shop ability to personalize the look, this is a case that’s unquestionably built for you.

We unveiled Custom Shop to the masses at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas and it was a huge hit. People waited in line—at times for close to an hour—just to get their chance to play the role of case designer. Things got so popular that, before the four-day expo was over, we ran out of Formula cases that visitors to our booth were able to color craft on the spot.

But, don’t worry…we’ve still got plenty of stock online. Check out the Custom Shop page on our website to get yours.

Barona Speedway in the hills of east San Diego County is home to a veritable smorgasbord of competitive racing events, offered up with the family in mind. It’s not Indy car. It’s not Formula 1. It’s not NASCAR. It’s just dirt and dust, kids and dogs, and plenty of BYO and RPM.

The semi-banked, quarter-mile clay oval track features super stock, mods, pro pony, stock pony, pure stock, street stocks, sprints, dwarf, and mini dwarf—in a pure Americana setting, with an authentic hometown vibe. And recently, the venue added one more item to the menu, playing host to the ultimate all-comers event.

The inaugural Twisted Throttles featured a “Run What Ya Brung” day of flat track and drag racing. A chance for average folks to hit the oval and throw down the gauntlet against their fellow everyman (and woman).

Twisted Throttles also boasted bike shows, live music, and plenty of vendors…as well as a kickoff party, burlesque show, and vintage bike show in the nearby city of Ramona. Many rode in for the Saturday to compete (or to spectate), but a whole bunch maximized the experience by dropping in the night before and camping overnight.

We couldn’t resist checking it out for ourselves.

When the weekend rolls around, we here at Element Case are always up for catching some rays in the So Cal sun…as well as getting a little more exposure for our brand. So, it was fitting that the weekend found us a stone’s throw from the Pacific at something called Exposure 2017.

The biggest women’s skateboarding competition in the world, the event featured a purse of $50,000 and attracted dozens of top skaters from virtually every corner of the globe. Five different events were contested—street am, bowl am, vert am and pro, street pro, bowl pro—with each split into two age categories (14 and under, 15 and over). The competitors ranged in age from a mere 5 years old to a grizzled “grayhair” of 35.

Hundreds of fans enjoyed a full day’s worth of grinds, flips, and slides, giving us a chance to enjoy some face time with a whole bunch of folks that make “thrill” a part of their everyday lives. We even invited attendees to visit our tent and #upgradeyourcase…and more than a hundred people gave us their current iPhone case in exchange for a shiny new REV.

The competition was staged by an organization called Exposure, whose motto is “Empowering women and girls through skateboarding.” The group’s events serve a dual purpose: to create opportunities for professional, amateur, and beginning female skaters; and to support at-risk communities by raising awareness, funding and resources for local non-profits.

Great cause. Great skaters. And a great time.

Element Case #UpgradeYourCase Event at Moto Beach Classic

Moving from nosebleed seats to field level. Getting a banana split instead of a single scoop. Switching out the alley-side standard room for the penthouse suite with ocean view.

It’s known as the upgrade. Something we at Element Case like to do when the inspiration strikes us. ‘cuz we like people, we like happy, and we like making people happy. It’s just the way we are.

At the Moto Beach Classic in Orange County, California, our company tent turned Surf City into Swap City when we announced to the crowd that we were offering a chance to get a stylin’ new Element Case. All they had to do was give us their current iPhone case and make a social media post about the exchange. More than 200 people took us up on the offer and the hashtags started flying.

The case upgrade. Just our way of promoting the act of recycling and helping to make the world a better-looking place.
